Favorite Passage: " Janie fooled around outside awhile to try and think it wasn't so. If she didn't see the sickness in his face she could imagine it wasn"t really happening. Well, she thought, that big old dawg with the hatred in his eyes had killed her after all. She wished she had slipped off that cow-tail and drowned then and there and been done. But to kill her through Tea Cake was too much to bear. Tea Cake, the son Evening Sun, had to die for loving her. She looked hard at the sky for a long time. Somewhere up there beyond blue ether's bosom sat He. Was He noticing what was going on around here? He must be because He knew everything. Did he mean to do this thing to Tea Cake and her? It wasn't any thing she could fight. She could only ache and wait. Maybe it was some big tease and when He saw it had gone far enough He'd give her a sign. She looked hard for something up there to move for a sign. A star in the daytime, maybe, or the sun to shout, or even a mutter thunder. Her arms went up in a desperate supplication for a minute. It wasn't exactly pleading, it was asking questions. The sky stayed hard looking and quiet so she went inside the house. God would do less then He had in His heart. "
Response: This passage in these two chapters is very powerful. Janie is realizing that what she has is coming to an end. That dog that they had encountered was a sign a bad omen that things were not going in the right direction. Janie I have realized no matter how hard she tries can never win. She had to horrible men in her life that treated her terribly. When she finally met a man that treated her the way she always wanted to be treated. Tea cake was the man of her dreams. He was everything that same dreamed of as a child and now that she has it , its being taken away from her. She is having hard time with this idea, but at the same time it is something that she has to accept.

Response: Here we notice the way she is asking question. Janie doesn't know what to do anymore. She trying to explain to herself why this could be happening to her. She is looking for something that will tell her she is wrong. She wants to be wrong so badly but she knows that nothing will change. This is her destiny and that will never change.
Question: Who is He?
Response: I honestly would like to know who He is.When reading this passage I had no idea who the book was referring to when they referred to He. I at first thought it was God , but then he was mention by name so I assumed it can't be him.
